How to Make the Most of The Playtime with Your Infants

Children grow faster during infancy. The curiosity and the energy to engage will continue to grow. Your baby starts to call out names like ‘dada’ and ‘baba’. Although they come out as random words, before you know it, your baby will start associating them with mom and dad.

As their hand-eye coordination starts to improve, your child will want to explore objects more in greater detail. They start imitating us brushing our hair or talking over the phone. They also start experiencing stranger and separation anxiety. Your baby can get upset as soon as they see a stranger approaching or when they see you leaving them, even if you’re going to the kitchen to grab a drink. It slowly eases with time as children learn that the separation is not permanent.

How To Help Your Baby Learn?

When your baby has never-ending curiosity, it’s crucial to give the baby safe ground to explore. Your baby might start enjoying playtime with balls, soft toys, and egg cartons. They love playing with squeeze toys during their bath and splashing around water.

Introducing simple words associated with familiar objects is the best way to make your baby learn new words since they try to imitate you. Keep repeating the words to reinforce it. You will encourage your child to repeat by including a natural pause between your sentence to make your child speak.

If you read books to your child, you’re on the right path! Continue reading those intriguing stories and if you come across an illustration or image. Point towards the picture and ask your child to tell you what’s there to develop an association between the things your child watches and the word that describes them. You should also encourage if your child points towards a picture and ask, “what’s that” “where’s the cat”.

Some Other Ideas

  • Motivate your child to crawl by getting them in the crawling position, placing a toy in front of them, and asking them to move towards it.
  • Play games like hide and seek, peekaboo, but always vary how you hide. Hide your face with clothes and let your child pull it away. Hide behind a wall to teach your baby how to hide.
  • Teach your child poems and songs such as “The Itsy Bitsy Spider”. Children love to hear, watch, and dance to these songs.
